The Origin Story

Pachamama was born not in a boardroom, but on the road. A chance encounter between founders Cristóbal Ruiz and Thomas Silcock in 2012 sparked a shared filmmaking journey across continents. Reunited years later in Peru, they launched Pachamama with a short film on Andean salt workers, a story rooted in resilience, land, and community. Today, Pachamama is an award-winning film production company creating films and photography driven by curiosity and authenticity. Drawing on decades of global travel and an ever-expanding network of collaborators, we tell stories that celebrate human strength, honor ecology, and bridge commercial and documentary storytelling where humanity and nature meet.

Documentary has always been at Pachamama’s core, but we bring commercial standards into this world and the honesty of human experience. Writing has become an important part of our process over the years, a film fails without quality story, however, structure can also emerge in production, so we leave space for magic too. Our love for branded documentaries continues to be a labour of love, we value brands who see the enduring power of human stories that are not only visually striking but emotionally grounded, and built to resonate long after.

Pachamama began with photography, and that passion remains at the core of our work today. We are proud to offer this service across culture and climate journalism, expeditions and travel, fashion and sport. Commercial and documentary photography is a medium we deeply love, and when the subject or brand aligns, we bring the same craft and care as we do in film. Often we deliver dual packages of still and motion, giving brands a complete archive of media to tell their story with consistency and impact.
